The Dawes Giro 500 is the pick of the bunch in the road cycle range. Its lightweight Dynamism frame makes the bike agile yet responsive. The Shimano Tiagra gears are reliable and smooth, the Vittoria Rubino tyres will run for miles and offer excellent puncture protection.

The Giro 500 has received a new paint job and frame for 2011 as well as a few more upgrades. Shimano 18 speed Tiagra gears make for a smooth gear change and pedalling, Alex AT450 rims and Vittoria Rubino tyres keep you stuck to the road, FSA stem and short drop handlebars make the ride comfortable and agile together with the Carbon fork which help to soften those bumpy roads.

About Road Bikes

Road bike scome in all shapes, sizes and frame materials but for all feature many of the same credentials. If you are looking for something fast amd light to build your fitness or you enjoy weekend races with your local club then a road bike could be the right choice. We realise that not everyone not everyone is hardcore roadie and that is why Dawes offer four models of road bike from the Giro 200 that is perfect for beginners or commuters right up to the awesome Giro 500 that is perfect for weekend racing or long fast rides on the tarmac.

• STI Shifters
  These shifters are a common sight on moders road bikes, they offer smooth gear changes at a push of the lever and a comfortable hand position on long rides.
• Carbon Forks
  Carbon forks usually appear on higher spec models such as our Giro 400 and Giro 500. They help to reduce road buzz and make the steering light and responsive.
• Gears
  Road bike gear ratios are kept high to give better acceleration but can make the legs work a bit harder on those hills. A double chainset is common on a road bike with compact chainsets also becoming the norm. A good all round gear ration to look for is 11-25T cassette with a 50 / 34T chainset, this will allow you to attack hills and pick up speed on the flat.
• Wheels
  Wheels are a key feature on road bikes as they need to be strong but light. Most road wheels will have either 28 or 32 spokes and the rims are usually profiled to be more aerodynamic. Tyres are thin and should be kept at a high pressure to allow for smoother riding and less punctures. Most tyre widths are between 23 & 28mm. remember a thinner tyre equals more speed but less comfort.
