Dawes Discovery Bikes
Hybrids are becoming more and more popular throughout the UK for commuters and people riding as part of a fitness regime. The reason for this is that they offer an upright riding position ideal when riding in heavy traffic. Low gearing makes hillier terrain easy on the legs and semi-slick tyres offer great speed with little loss of traction.
If your looking for something nippy and light but without the riding position of a drop bar road bike then a hybrid could be the perfect bike for you. In the Dawes discovery range there are models that suit the new rider just looking to get into commuting right up to the Discovery 701 for the riders that commute every day.
-
Gears
Gearing is low to make hills easier to tackle but there are enough gears to pick up speed. Gearing ranges from 21 gears to 27 gears. -
Steering
Flat handlebars make for a more comfortable riding position and also give more confident handling through traffic. -
Gears
Road bike gear ratios are kept high to give better acceleration but can make the legs work a bit harder on those hills. A double chainset is common on a road bike with compact chainsets also becoming the norm. A good all round gear ration to look for is 11-25T cassette with a 50 / 34T chainset, this will allow you to attack hills and pick up speed on the flat. -
Dynamism tubing
Dawes have created Dynamism tubing for three key reasons, strength, comfort and efficiency. Dynamism tubing is specifically shaped to give more strength without adding weight but still give a smooth ride and efficient pedalling. The front profile of the tube that is found at the head tube area is shaped to be more aerodynamic whilst maintaining strength. The lower sections of the tube found near the bottom bracket and seat tube are square in shape, this keeps the area where pedalling force is at its greatest to keep the frame rigid which means every turn of the pedal is directed towards the back wheel rather than lost in the flex of the frame.
